A Dubai-based company is paving the way for electronic waste recycling in the Middle East.
From humble beginnings of mobile phone collections with a staff of four in 2004, Enviroserve has grown to a staff of more than 50 with 8 offices throughout the Middle East, Africa and Caucasus. In addition, the recycling company says it has entered into new partnerships with Ireland-based Wisetek and California-based ERI.
Enviroserve was named the Electrical & Electronic Equipment Recycling Company of the Year at the inaugural Middle East Waste & Recycling (MEWAR) Awards Oct. 25 in Dubai.
“On behalf of the entire Enviroserve family, both in the UAE and throughout our international operations, partners and associates, I am delighted our efforts have been recognized,” says Brian Wilkie, Enviroserve co-founder and chairman. “This award is tribute to Enviroserve’s pioneering spirit and leadership in the recycling industry.”
The company has plans to open The Recycling Hub at Dubai Industrial City in early 2019. The 30-million-dollar facility features state-of-the-art Swiss technology that features a zero waste-to-landfill process. The facility will be the destination for waste electronics from South Africa and Caucasus, the recycler says.
Middle Eastern countries produce an average of 14.5 kilograms of electronic waste per person. According to Enviroserve, the Recycling Hub will have the capacity to process nearly 40 million kilograms of electronic waste annually. The plant will also feature a brand protection service, an IT refurbishment center and refrigerant gas reclamation division.
“In the age of data security, the importance of the ITAD division at The Recycling Hub cannot be understated. Secure data destruction is so important to our clients,” says Stuart Fleming, co-founder and group CEO. “Our brand protection and refrigerant gas reclamation services support the needs of our customers. The Enviroserve team continues to delight by developing new and exciting solutions for their waste disposal problems and we will continue to lead the way in 2019 and beyond.”
